Let’s begin a "hodgepodge" of a conversation: “a confused mixture,” and, also a relation of “hotchpotch,” which is a term for mutton (apparently, that’s lamb) stew with mixed vegetables. I have neither mutton stew nor mixed vegetables for you today, my dear ones. I’ve been attempting to write and the only word that comes to mind is hodgepodge.
I don’t necessarily have a “confused mixture” to offer, but, I do often have confusion (!): a mix of new images and feelings on how challenging it can be to access, articulate and learn how to engage with the things we care about. I imagine it might be easy for some of you. You have it in the bag. The cat is in the bag? No, the cat is outta the bag. Wait, this has nothing to do with cats.
At times, we might find a path; go down the path; continue down the path; we are one with the path; we circle back around on the path; stop to smell the flowers on the path; and, you say to yourself, “I AM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS PATH.”
And, then, at times, we are looking for that path; we are asking, “can you please define the word path?” or “can you use it in a sentence?” and we inquire about the origin; we don’t know where it begins or ends; we might even be on the path without knowing.
And, at the same time we’re wandering aimlessly in the woods; stubbing our toes; making waaaay too much noise and the bears are coming, and then we try to tip toe away and, you say to yourself, “I AM SO LOST ON THE SEARCH FOR THE PATH I WANT TO BE PASSIONATE ABOUT. AND, THESE BEARS ARE REALLY BOTHERING ME.”
So, to stop the dramatics: it’s of course, not so either/or. We are most likely experiencing things in our lives that tell us that these paths are actually one in the same. No path is usually linear…if it is, remember to question the shit outta it. Yet, the same goes for non-linear. Basically, the lesson I'm practicing is to always question.
I often feel it’s so difficult to craft the words that link together both a passion and an understanding. Both, a knowledge of and a love of...And, in so many ways the information we learn and share is tucked away in academia or tucked away in our communities and how do we bring together these two worlds to build a life that makes sense?
Questions to ask ourselves this week (A special thanks to Seagoat Astrology):
What do we love?
What have we always wanted to learn?
What do we already know and how do we share this with others?
